Disease
It is a very uncommon autosomal
dominant neurodegenerative disease. It causes slow cerebellar ataxia which
leads to lack of muscular control and coordination of the upper and lower parts.
SYMPTOMS:
Symptoms are
memory defects, dificuties in speech, dysphagia, spasticity, muscular weakness,
involuntary urination and eye movement, clumsiness and may even lead to
paralysis.
DIAGNOSIS:
It is diagnosed
by clinical features. Genetic studies are also conducted.
TREATMENT:
There are no
specific treatments. Treatments are symptomatic. Levodopa and beclofan can be
used. Physiotherapy can also be conducted.
I was diagnosed in November 2007 with Parkinson's Disease. I have left side tremors, balance and gait issues and some non-motor symptoms: quiet voice, some cognitive decline, small handwriting.
