Xeroderma Pigmentosum
Xeroderma Pigmentosum is a rare genetic defect in which the skin and tissue covering the eye are extremely sensitive to ultraviolet rays from sunlight. It is caused by the defect in Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER) which leads to deficient repair of DNA damaged by UV radiation. It is usually detected early  in infancy around 6 months after birth.

Symptoms
It includes, blistering and sunburn after a bit of sun exposure, scaling, freckling & crusting of the skin, premature skin aging, skin cancer.
Treatment

Children are kept away from sunlight and even lights from fluorescent bulbs, wear UV protected sunglasses, and apply high SPF (greater than 70) cream, wear protective clothing and doctor’s prescription medicine to prevent growth of skin cancers.
