Continent Ileostomy Surgery: Before & After Continent ileostomy

In the abdomen the ileostomy that will draw into a surgery which will create a pouch, there will be a nipple valve which will create from the ileum in discharge of intestinal contents is stopped before damage occurs.

This is called as Kock’s Pouch. Once the surgery is done the method of the pouch is kept empty relatively in replacement of the catheter in the surgery.

After removal of catheter there would be a review in a week or two weeks that will depend on the status of the function of the intestine and healing of wound. After the catheter is removed the pouch will be drained periodically.
