Malignant Melanoma

Malignant Melanoma

It is a type of skin cancer. It is derived from Greek word meaning dark. It forms from pigment containing cells in the skin known as melanocytes.

SYMPTOMS:
 Early signs are the presence of moles, nodular changes or presence of lumps in the skin. Bit by bit tingling, ulceration and draining takes after at a later stage.

DIAGNOSIS:
It is based on the clinical features namely: Asymmetrical lesion, irregular borders, multiple colouration, moles greater than 6 mm, growing.
Biopsies, LDH, PET and CT SCAN are done.

TREATMENT:

Surgery, adjuvant therapy, immunotherapy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are done.
