Lymphangioleiomyomatosis

It is also known as LAM which is a very uncommon lung disease which results in a proliferation of the lung musculature, bronchioles, lymphatic, alveolar septa and peri - vascular spaces. Individuals with the disease tuberous sclerosis may also develop LAM.

SYMPTOMS:
It includes shortness of breath after strain, cough, pneumothorax, haemoptosis, and pleural effusion. It is more common in women.

DIAGNOSIS:
CT and Spirometry studies are done.  Lung biopsy is also done.

TREATMENT:

Treatment of LAM includes anti-estrogen therapy, sirolimus and lung transplantation.
